Univox Super Fuzz with Tone Control?

tracer03
Anyone have any idea if there's a layout for - or clone of - the Univox Super Fuzz with a tone control pot instead of the switch? I've searched here and a few other sites without success, and my Google-fu is weak sauce tonight...

The closest I've come is finding some old discussion about replacing the switch with a pot, and a schematic at GGG for their Super Fuzz with Mods (link here) - along with a perf layout at DIY Stompboxes (link here) - but nothing a can manage for stripboard.

Thanks in advance - again!

just take and replace the switch with a pot. lug 3 of the pot goes to Sw3 on the board, lug 2 to S2 on the board, and lug 1 to SW1 on the board. What this will do will allow you to sweep between the two tone options rather then having the choice of 1 or the other. try using a 10k log pot.

So a dual gang pot can be used like a blendable DPDT, with components soldered between lugs A1 and B1, and A3 and B3?

Not dual gang, a regular pot. I'm not sure what you're asking about about blending caps. The superfuzz has 2 filters.  the switch chooses 1 or the other, so if you replace the switch with a pot you can sweep between the two filters.

This layout is great, I've made a few of them:

Here is an etchable (or perf) layout of it:

I've made a few of those also. I like this particular Derringer version because it sounds equally great on guitar and bass.

Is it possible to make that same mod with the mids switch of the big muffs?

Short answer is yes, Lunt not as easy. You'll need to make a spot on the board for the 2 additional caps, or run a  each cap directly from the pot lug to the place the wire would be. Personally the switch is better then having a pot.

Yeah, I meant that more as a general question (not Superfuzz related) but I guess in most cases a regular pot does the blending trick just fine.

The best useful mod I found for the superfuzz tone section was making a "scoop" pot for the tone control, (10k pot between 100nf cap and ground).
