soooo.... why do people swap in/out resistors for biasing the transistor instead of using a trimmer to dial in the bias?

I am guessing that they socket the transistor.

Same reasons somebody might replace a trimmer on a JFET drain with a fixed resistor

I think most people these days probably build them with a trimmer on the emitter like the DAM Red Rooster
