Enjoying the pedal building.

you could build a dls mk111, or try a wampler pinnacle subbing 5457`s for the j201`s. however if you want a really nice mild overdrive I`d go with the G2D cream tone, a beautiful warm bluesy OD.
If it wasn't for this website I would definitely have a life.

I dunno about fat, but there's plenty of nice mild overdrives on here.

I built a regular Ibanez TS808 recently, but added a toggle to swap out the 47n cap for a 220n one and that fattens it up nicely. I quite like it. You could sub different caps there until you find one you like.

The Timmy is always a favorite and you know how people feel about the Klon. Wampler are always awesome and I quite like the Fulltone stuff as well.

Hit the Overdrive tag on the right of the front page and have a look through. Maybe listen to some demos.

Try the Barbershop with 2n5457s instead of the J201s

i second the babershop. also, the RAH, and the WIIO are very fat and ballsy, the green citrus is nice and fat, orange citrus, and maybe the wampler ecstasy

Let me suggest the Clark Gainster:

Vero Layout for Clark Gainster

One of the nicest "low-verdrives" I've built so far.  Runners up:  Zendrive, Barbershop, Liquid Sunshine.

I also like the Gainster because it fired up for me the first time with no tweaking...

I just built myself yet another Clipper Ship, I love that pedal.
Q: Why is a drummer like a scud missile?
A: Both are offensive and inaccurate.

Many thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check out the circuits and listen to some clips of the pedals. Hopefully I'll build one next week.

Thanks again

After careful consideration, I do like the sound of soft clipping using mosfets in series and jfet, so I'm proposing a Rat type circuit, but with just soft clipping in the feedback loop between pins 6 and 2 of a TL071 opamp. The jfet would be a 2N5457.

Do any existing circuits have a similar design?

Thanks

It seems simple, just a Rat design schematic, remove the hard clipping and add Mosfet soft clipping in the Opamp's feedback loop.

What could go wrong?

I've just breadboarded the design, it works fine. A few more tweaks and I'll play my guitar through it for a few hours and see what I think.
