I'd think not though, newer strings tend to have more high-frequency content than older ones. You know what else though; perhaps it's the difference in space and I haven't found the optimal settings yet, but I find that since I moved, my favorite bass sounds a little less full than it used to - even on the large capacitor settings plus the fact that it's strung with a year-old set of Chromes. It sounds real snarly now on the pickup straight to jack setting, far more so than it ever did. I haven't tried the other one with the SR2000s yet, but I'm afraid of how bright it'll sound considering I've been thinking of changing them out because they're so damn mid-heavy (and it doesn't help that I shrunk the tone cap). Perhaps your new location is skewing your perception. (Psst did you see the B2K layout I posted? )

I just built this using the above layout, and it sounds great to me. So good that I'll actually box it up! Lots of lowend, and it didn't take long to find some usable tones. I have a Geddy jazz with Dimarzio model Js.

Great to hear! And dude a GL Jazz with Model Js... that must sound sooooo sick. I hate you already

that could be it actually. the way the sound is bouncing around the new workspace could be part of the issue......i mean 3 walls are concrete........
again, not saying it sounds bad by any means, its just......different the i expected. but then again, in both videos there is a major difference in tone that i hear, and mine sounds more like the 2nd video where there's that little mid boost. |
I've found something interesting. Rocket, you were saying that you were specifically looking for the BJFE version of this pedal, and what we've got here is the Bearfoot version.
However... They're not all that different, just a few value swaps as far as I see. Maybe worth experimenting with? Also I'm planning on working on mine this week, it's been far too long already... hopefully I'll have a tone report soon lol.

holy shit!!!!finally!!!!!! i swear, i don't understand why bassists are so afraid to degoop their effects, where as our fellow guitar player will buy something just to tear that goop off. i'll get a layout for this one done tomorrow.
let me know how yours turns out man. i want to compare our notes, and just see if im completely nuts, or on point with my findings. again, the bearfoot doesn't sound bad, i just feel there's more of a midbump that would explain people saying it makes you bass"more clear and articulate," while i was hoping it was a little more dare i say, dark. not a bad od, it got boxed up cause i like it, just wasn't want i had thought it was. |

That's awesome Silvie! So how does it compare to the Mad Professor version on the main site? I've built and boxed that one already, so if the layout is the same and just a few values changed, I can knock another up and do a direct comparison.
EDIT: Just found a schem for the Mad Professor - looks like several differences. Mad Professor Blueberry http://elkit.web.id/wp-content/uploads/MP-Baya-Azul-V-1.5.jpg |

Sound wise completely different animal. The bearfoot and bjfe are much lower gain, and seem to have more life to them, where as to me at least the mp is a little on the lifeless side.

My thoughts as well, rocket
|
Yeah, I wasn't hugely impressed with the Mad Professor version. I boxed it up, but it has not seen much use since!
|
Yeah I never liked the MP version for reasons I'm sure I've rambled on about elsewhere. They're only kind of the same circuit (the MP has a load of values changed and an extra stage added). (As an aside I also don't go by that nickname anymore, that was a holdover from when I used to play a lot of TF2 and isn't something that ever gets used anymore )
@Rocket yeah I will. I think I'm going to go ahead and build the Bearfoot version because I've already got all the correct parts collected, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on how they compare.

Mmmm team fortress 2. I miss playing that, as it seems like everything's I log onto it no one is on that actually plays like a team. I was always 1 of two characters, pyro or heavy. Nothing better then capturing the briefcase as one of them and making it back over and over. Or hiding under the stairs and burning every mother that tries to protect their own case. I might have to bootup and try and play this week. Might as well as get some half life in as well.
But in any event, I will totally compare the two after I build it. Also, I posted my layout for the BJFE under the other thread for it, with the other one. |
@ Beaker no worries
@Rocket yeah man I was a pyro all the way. So much fun. Haven't played in so long, I've seen some bits and pieces of how the game's been progressing through Reddit and it doesn't even look the same anymore. Yeah I'm curious to see if there's a drastic difference in tone between the two. The circuit differences are subtle.

Jesus, a pyro and another reddit man like myself too? God damn we have too much in common. I'm still waiting for them to get their shit together and make the next half life, a new team fortress, and left for dead 3.

I hear ya. But with all the hype surrounding the prophecy of HL3, I don't think they could do anything that lives up to everyone's expectations

Btw, for those that have not read my post comparing my post under the bjfe blueberry comparing the bearfoot and bearfoot, I figured it would be a good idea to repost it here.
i built bjfe and the bearfoot, and the bjfe is the one to have IMHO. there is no midbump like there is with the bearfoot. The bjfe seems to retain mores of my basses natural tone, just adds a little more warmth and OD grit. both are good, but i think the bjfe is the better of the two. btw, i both have been boxed as they are both worth boxing. |
So Rocket, I've finished my build and have it working right after chasing down a number of stupid shorts (there's a lot of stuff in this box with the relay bypass board and whatnot, and here's hoping they're fixed for good). I will say I love the tone, and I think I do see what you mean about the mid bump. It's slight but noticeable. I'll crank 'er and give you better feedback when no one else is home to complain/judge me Not by far my neatest or smoothest build but I like it.

No love for spies???????
I miss TF1's demoman. TF2 demo is not nearly as fun to play. Building the BJFE version this weekend to try out with my new bass amp. |
Haha as much as I want to say yes, as a pyro it's my job to thwart y'all I agree though, the TF2 demoman is kind of uninteresting. Then again I wouldn't know because I have no idea if they changed it since I last played.
Let us know what you think.
