Well first I've got to say that I'm glad I'm not crazy about the midbump with the Bearfoot. I noticed it more when running through the mesa at "normal" volume when I was home alone .

Also, fuck spies are the biggest pain in the ass. As a fellow pyro I like to hide and just burn every mother that goes for the case. Funny enough I would hide in the enemy base and burn everyone that would protect their case, then waddle back to my own base the case. One of my best friends is typically a soldier or sniper and he's ridiculously good.

Btw, have you noticed that we three are bassist, and we all played TF? Coincidence?

I played TF before I started playing bass but not by more than a year or so.  I was in the clan NULL for a while in high school... fun times.  I quit TF when Counterstrike came out because I started going to college and everyone in the dorms played CS.  I put around 40-60 hours into TF2 but it never had the same level of organized chaos that TF1 did back in the day.  Been playing Dark Souls/Bloodborne lately.  Ugh, thinking back on my beginning bass days: a warped ass peavey bass and a boss ODB-1.  Yikes.

my buddies and i would have counterstrike LAN parties like every weekend back in the day, and strangely enough we were just talking about playing again last week. i've been wondering how bloodborne is. currently with a small group we're working our way through the first dlc for borderlands the prequel, and it's so good and ridiculous.

Okay, a better tone report. It's lovely, but you're definitely not crazy in that it has a bit of middy grind to it. Not that it's bad, though. The Nature control on this one is interesting, if you turn it down to <30% you can get some hairy low-end distortion even on low gain settings. Turning it up gives a it progressively more clipping emphasis in the high end, which lowers the perceived amount of distortion a little bit (as you don't get the characteristic fuzzed lows tone). Gain range is good, and it's very versatile - I was playing such things like Cake's "Moustache Man" on the lower end up to something driving like Audioslave's "Cochise" on the high. In particular, I found a great "Vital Signs" (Rush) tone out of this thing at high nature, low gain and following a compressor. I'm super curious now about the BJFE version.

EDIT here have a (bad) picture. No I'm not opening it up

Hi there!
I want to make one of these for my bass player and have a couple of questions...
1st question, to make the BJFE version, omit that 2.64 resistor with a jumper?
And 2nd question... I notice on the BJFE schematic posted by JFACE on FSB, his schematic has some other different values ?
22n on the input as for instance and also Nature lug 3 is going to 2n2 that connects to Vol lug 3
On your layout I noticed instead of a 2n2, its a 220n is going to source on the fet instead of the drain...
so all in all similar to the honeybee but not

Still if the layout works... nice!

:-)

Ok nevermind
I reread that FSB post and notice you have a different layout on there then on this thread...

I assume that is the one to use...

Correct. Use the layout I made for the BJFE one and you're good to go. There's a bunch of differences.

Cool!
https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/I40iBje3

I am going to use this layout from madbeans yellow shark PCB...

I triple checked and I think with changing the values over to the blueberry, as well as cutting a trace it should be good to go...

I added an extra trace that connects C5 over to the Vol 3 lug.
I want to use this same PCB to make a blueberry and a honey bee... will have an extra PCB left over but I am going to order one and give it a whirl...
thanks for the great info Rocket!!!

Hopfully this layout I did works LOL

Oh another question...
Is the blueberry an always ON pedal more or less???
I dig the tones on the videos... I know my bass player will love it!

that's not the bjfe version, that will give you the bearfoot version of the blueberry. if you read my comments i built both, and for me prefer the bjfe to the bearfoot. i find the bearfoot to be a little too middy for my taste, and i feel like i loose some of the characteristics of my bass, and to be honest it doesn't sound a whole lot like what you hear in the videos. but then again it sounds different in the different videos on youtube.

the bjfe version is more natural and i still sound like whatever bass i plug into it. i hate to say it, but the bjfe is like the klon, but for bass. i mean that in concept of what the effect does. i leave my bjfe blueberry on pretty much all the time, again similar in concept to the klon.

Thanks for the info! I will stick with your layout for the blueberry then... ordering parts today...
I am also going to make a bfje honey bee and a bearfoot honey bee for my guitar and see which I like better... then off the one I dislike

Quick question.  I am finally getting around to building this.  (After 20 cuts, 4 jumpers and an IC socket, I called it a night last night.)  But I only have a CA3130EZ.  Is there a major difference?  I'd rather not wait for an IC from China.  It takes weeks to get to the US.  Thanks

no difference at all electrically speaking. the difference is in the construction. i think that the ez is lead free, but i forget.

Thanks.  I am trying to remove all the lead from my tone, so that works out.

Yup -EZ model is lead free, that's the only difference.

Re: Bearfoot BlueBerry OD

Tried building it today and no sound.  Been through it a hundred times (with breaks inbetween) but no sound at all.  What was weird is one the LED's lights up as soon as you put power to it - not only when it's engaged.  That would indicate a short, perhaps?  I hate to rebuild it if its something simple that I'm missing.  Plus I used my last 2 220n caps.  I guess I'll take one more look at it before I before I sign the death certificate.

maybe a bridge. mine worked first time i powered her up. take some pictures, top and bottom and post them. while you're at it, just go through the tracks with a knife to be safe. just like all mistakes after building a long time, it's something stupid that we just miss.

Re: Bearfoot BlueBerry OD

Believe me, the knife was working from the outset.  Bridges have screwed me up too many times.  I looked at it again with seemingly fresh eyes and I don't see anything amiss, besides my crappy soldering skills.  The only subs I did were a 22n cap for the 27n and an MP102 trans.  And I hate the silver vero I got.  It's the last time I buy that.

I don't know about using an MPF102 in that spot. The Idss and Vp are fairly significantly different between the 2N5952 and MPF102. The resistor values specified in the layout are specifically designated to work with the Idss and Vp of a 5952, this may be a problem.
