The Multiwave Guitar Synth

Freppo
Hi!

I released a new DIY project yesterday called the Multiwave Guitar Synth.

I have a vero layout for it that is verified. :)
https://www.parasitstudio.se/uploads/2/4/4/9/2449159/multiwavevero.png

It turned out quite big, so I had to flip it around to fit a 1590BB...

I hope you like it. :)

Hey Fredrik!

That sounds SO awesome!
Is it bass friendly? It could make a nice bass synth type of sound!

Man I just love what you do Freppo. I wish nothing but the best for you and your designs

What are you using for the oscilloscope? I’ve tried a couple different plugins in Logic with mixed success

Thank you :)

I'm using an old analog hewlett packard oscilloscope for the demo video, and just changed the colour in the video editing software.

Hey! I'm glad you like it :)

It works pretty well with bass, but can have trouble tracking well on the lowest notes.
However, I've found that palm muting works very well for improving the tracking.

You should check out my new pedal, the big brother of this one - The Multiwave Mega

Thats too difficult for me to built, Fredrik - I think I may give your vanilla Guitar Synth a go and see how i fare :)

By the way, your effects RULE, my man, keep it up!

Ok wow.. I haven’t been interested in buying a new pedal for the past few years until I watched your Multiwave Mega demo. That is astounding

Just ordered a Mega PCB! This will be the first thing I’ve built in almost 2 years. I’ve run out of things that Ive wanted to build. But I HAVE to build this!

Amazing work! Can’t wait!
Looks like I can get everything from Tayda except the TL974. I’ll track one of those down somewhere.

I’ve noticed there are a few versions of the 974. Does it matter which one? One ends in IN, another in ING4, etc.

I got my 974 from DigiKey, along with the 9mm pot and some mojo C0G ceramic caps for this build. So stoked for it to show up!

Much respect and appreciation for what you do, Freppo!

Amazing work Freppo! I love this thing! Was so easy to put together.

One note to builders, those white push buttons don’t like to be tightened too much. I snapped one in half barely trying. Luckily I had one to spare. So tighten the nut just enough and no more.

Awesome!

Mine is having issues and I’m lost on digital stuff. Swapped all the CMOS chips with Digi-Key parts, issues persist.

Yeah it works, it just sounds...off. When I hit the sustain footswitch it just turns into a single ascending high pitch sound. Very strange.

That sounds like an issue with the CD4046 lowpass filter or the CD4066.
Check the values of R9 (22K), R12 (330K) and C6 (220nF).
You can try reflowing the solder on those parts, and if it doesn't help, try replacing C6.

Does the Sustain mode LED work/toggle when pressing the sustain footswitch?

Thanks, those parts and values check out. Haven’t got another 220n ceramic at the moment. Would a film cap be okay there? I know in the instructions it specified ceramic (I bought 2 nice C0G caps for this).

The LED does light up, yes.

Cheers
