Haha, Yeah I see it now

I don't think I'll build anything in one of those enclosures again.

It was a right pain in the arse.

This one was a slog.   so many little issues in the final assembly - many rogue hums and mystery noises, relays & current draw. ugh.

It's finally done tho.

JC-120 on the clean side, SLO 100 on the dirty side,  60 watt class D power amp. relay power amp standby, relay channel switching with remote switching jack, and effects loop.

everything runs off a 24V 3A SMPS

Absolutely fantastic work Tim. Love the matching nuts on the footswitches. Very impressive

Love your build too Bogey!

Mad Professor "Deep Blue Delay"

I opted for the t(r)ails version with the larger pot for dirty long repeats which I find to be quite useful.

Sexy!

Is the finish dipped or poured?

Cheers Tim, it's black acrylic painted on thick and then a piece of string dipped in white and dragged about randomly.

Re: Show your pedal guts!

Sensei Tim
this was a custom job for a local guy who wanted a Captain Coconut pedal

i used madbean PCBs because i didnt want to re-invent the wheel and i wouldn't be making any of those three effects in the forseeable future:

the Captain Coconut has 3 effects:  octavia, fuzz face, and univibe, each with their own dedicated in/out jacks.

I used the madbean mangler, retrograde, and harbinger two PCBs.  the Harbinger uses a switches TRS jack to use the on-board pot to control speed or an external expression pedal to control the speed.  The Harbinger is also mounted on 5cm long machine screws to allow it to sit over top of the 3PDT switch.

One thing that i learned the hard way from this build is to NOT use cyanoacrylate (aka superglue/krazy glue) as it offgasses and everything has this white film on it. you can really see it on the charge pump on the fuzzface in the center.

Still a fun build.

Re: Show your pedal guts!

Sensei Tim
couple of new things

MOAR. boost

The Golden Ratio.  based on the vintage clone theory but with modern touches:  improved power section, better LFO isolation to reduce noise, edge switch, input pad to play nice with high output pickups, and a transparent output boost to deal with the volume drop on some settings.

I forgot to add an input cap on the PCB and had to add an extra cap on the switch. the next rev will have them integrated onto the PCB.

I'm going to do a demo vid soon comparing a NOS mn3007 BBD with one of the new xvive mn3007 re-issue BBD chips.

Re: Show your pedal guts!

Thanks Travis!

I’ve spent the last year and a half almost getting proficient at eagle and layouts and learning best practices... it’s so cheap to get 5 pcbs made at JLc that it’s not even worth doing things on stripboard anymore - and since veroboard.com stopped carrying the large stripboards I’ve converted almost exclusively to PCBs.

Re: Show your pedal guts!

The enclosure is shitty - was going for an old vintage abused vibe...

SMPS taking a 12v input @ 400mA and boosting it to 190V powering a single 12ax7 in a fender dual showman/ alembic f2b preamp.

Recently I started getting into designing PCBs and I did a relay bypass board with a PIC12F675 too.
I have 20 AC176 transistors at home that I got from my grandfather, so I made a couple of PCBs, cloning the EQD Tone Reaper, to see if I can make it work, and it works.

Before drilling the jacks, dc jack:

Re: Show your pedal guts!

Sensei Tim
It’s not done yet but it works and sounds spot on!

Right now it’s running 6v to the heaters via a 9v power supply and it draws just under 1.1 amps.  I am going to try using a 12v power supply and running the heaters straight from the power supply and not thru a regulator.

The SMPS is boosting the voltage to 200v.   I’m going to get some 400v caps and see how far I can push it lol.   I never thought I’d have a limitation due to my hookup wire only being rated for 300v lol

I’m also exploring cooling options - either a tiny fan on the side or vent holes on the top surface.  I’m having a hard time finding a very small case fan that will fit and that will run off of 9-12v. Most small fans are 3.3 or 5v.

Edit:  forgot to add:   It’s a preamp that is heavily, heavily based on the Mesa boogie Mark IIc+.

I still need to figure out how to add the Mesa 5 band eq into this thing...

A question: Don't you need ventilation holes somewhere on this thing? I imagine with 3 preamp tubes, it will produce a lot of heat, or the big enclosure is enough?

Re: Show your pedal guts!

Sensei Tim
yeah i said in my original post - i'm looking for a small fan to mount on the side to give ventilation.  on this one i'd rather not drill holes on the top surface.

Re: Show your pedal guts!

hey tim ,you could try a raspberry pi mini fan. they only measure 30x30x8mm and run on 5volts.
